not new, not experienced. should i switch off asura?

started playing a couple years ago in earnest for the first time (originally dabbled in it at NA launch on cerberus) and i've resubbed, but i've found myself in a weird situation now that asura is closed. it's been almost a year since, and i'm doubting there are many players around my progression level, and i previously made my gil selling items for quest unlocks new characters would need, which now seems a lot less useful

am i worried about nothing, or would it be in my best interest to switch to a more open server with my family? as far as my progression level goes, i'm at 1733JP on my THF, who has a pretty good TH set now for farming malignance (2/5), so i'm hesitant to give that up and start all over with a new character
