Is India dev quality actually improving or is that marketing

Real talk question. Is the quality of Indian developers actually improving in the last few years, or is that just what the outsourcing vendors tell us?

My experience says yes, quality has genuinely improved. The devs we are hiring now are significantly stronger than those we could find five years ago. More senior, better English, deeper modern stack knowledge, better product thinking.

A few reasons I think this is real:

  • Indian startups have trained a generation of product-oriented devs
  • Remote work has opened up global salaries and standards
  • Top Indian engineering schools are producing more grads
  • Online learning platforms have flattened skill gaps

But I could be suffering from selection bias. We hire carefully through a solid interview process and employ through Wisemonk, which gives us access to a better candidate pool.

Are you seeing the same improvement, or is it still hit and miss depending on who you hire?
