can trust still be rebuilt after repeated dishonesty early in a relationship?
Problem/Goal:
I want honest advice on whether trust can still be rebuilt after this situation, or if I’m just forcing myself to stay because I love him.
Context:
We started talking on November 28, and it’s been almost 6 months now. At the start of us talking, he was very strict about loyalty and always got upset thinking I might be talking to other guys. He would constantly tell me not to entertain others and said he was very loyal himself.
Then around April 21, close to my birthday, I found out he had cybersex/videojakol with other guys from December 15–31. He apologized and explained that he “wasn’t sure about us yet” during that time. He also told me December 31 was the last time it happened.
But now in May, I found out there was another one on January 21. He apologized again and said he genuinely forgot that it happened and promised nothing happened from February until now.
What hurts me the most is that during those months, I was thinking every day how lucky I was to have him, while he was doing those things behind my back. Around February, we even started talking seriously about where our relationship was going, and I told him I wanted to pursue him properly. He said that was the reason he stopped doing those things.
I’m struggling because while he was doing that, he was also very suspicious and strict with me, even though I wasn’t doing anything.
Can someone genuinely change from this? Or will I always keep discovering new things and end up hurting myself more?
