The gay community owes me a word to replace what they took back from cis white men.

I'm a late millennial. The last generation of slur slicking sons of salacious synonyms. Back in the olden times, before the towers came down (which was very gay by the way) words had contextual emphasis. Some of your friends were gay and some of your other friends were gay. Make of that what you will.

Now we've come along way since the Gameboy printer and Lloyd in Space. We all grew up a lot when those towers came down. Now we understand and agree that words have power and an insidious effect on all of our brethren and...sis..thren and it's crucial that we continue the societal battles that let everybody feel safe especially in these times.

But the fact is there is no replacement for the simple elegance and ubiquitousness of calling something gay. It's a powerful placebo: vague, effective and (we used to think) has no side effects. It goes beyond us (There is no part of me that doesn't think the dinosaurs didn't think that asteroid was gay)

Now I'm not saying the gays literally owe us repatriations. It's their word now but you have pop music, can't you just let us have this? If we can't work together to find an adequate replacement (and trust me I'm looking) then what am I supposed to do? Somethings in my life were simply gay and they had nothing to do with being gay (Dam you Bin Laden you maniac! You blew it up! Dam you to hell!)

I just want to say that in my opinion I may be ignorant as hell but I don't consider myself homophobic at all. Some of my gayest friends are gay.
