Jess Mariano why does everyone love him?

I absolutely hate Jess. He is so cruel to Rory. How can you love someone and just leave them like that? He knew Rory loved him, if he even cared a little about her he wouldn't have left. Jess complained that Rory didnt reach out while she was in New York but they weren't even dating. Yet when they are dating and serious, he bails on her. How can you be so unbelievably cruel?

I feel any fan of their relationship is insane because how can someone say they LIKE HIM after what he did. It was beyond cruel. He prioritised his comfort over caring for her.

Don't say its his age, he knew what he was doing was abusive. Completely up and leaving. Without letting Rory know if he's alive or dead. I cannot imagine how destabilising that would have been for her.
