If someone received a deep slash to the abs, what would recovery look like?

Nothing deep enough to pierce organs, but deep enough to affect tissue and muscle. I have a character that'll be put out of action by a knife wound to the torso, and the story would then follow their recovery.

I guess im wondering how long it would take to heal, what would be involved in recovery (can they still move around with an injury like that?), and I assume stitches would be required?

I have had a look online but all resources talk about penetrating wounds rather then a slice from side to side.
