My friend and I built a card game as a side project, hit more walls than we expected, lost sleep over it, and today MEMO5 is live on Kickstarter at 12pm BST.

Honestly, I didn't expect to be writing this post.

A while back, my mate and I were looking for a side project — something tangible we could ship, learn from, and hopefully turn into a bit of something down the line. We wanted to build something real, not just another app nobody asks for.

We kept coming back to a card game we'd all grown up playing. Simple, social, something everyone at the table could get into. So we decided to make our own version of it — MEMO5, a fast memory card game where you win by messing with what everyone else remembers.

What we thought would be straightforward turned out to be anything but. Rulebooks, manufacturing, fulfilment, Kickstarter compliance, graphic design, playtesting, more playtesting... There were nights we lost sleep just trying to hit a deadline. I'm sure a lot of people in this group know exactly what that feels like.

But there was also something deeper driving it. Both of us have people close to us dealing with memory loss, family members with dementia. We wanted to make something that was genuinely fun but also kept your brain sharp. A game that brings people together and gives them a reason to sit down and actually think.

Today it's live. First thing we've ever launched on Kickstarter. No idea what happens next, but we're proud it exists.

If anyone wants to check it out or just chat about the process, I'm all ears.
