Is my friend bad? Or I am tweaking out?

So this friend I met last year because we share the same name and while on the surface they're responsible, respectful and skilled but on the other hand they misinterprets a lot like one time I said "I am gonna live in Switzerland for the rest of my life" and they said "oh? You gonna abandon your parents" also they calls the rest of our friend group idiots even though he's like ignorant as hell outside of academics
