How do you get into NUS Calibur or Bumblebee? What's the selection process like?

University

Hey, I'm interested in joining a competition robotics team at NUS and these two caught my eye — NUS Calibur (the RoboMaster team) and NUS Bumblebee (the underwater robot team). But I can't find much about how they actually pick members. Does anyone know?

For Calibur — I saw something about a "DarkNUS" program? Is that like a training thing you have to go through first? How do they decide who makes the actual competition team?

For Bumblebee — Do they just interview you or is there some kind of trial period? I heard they take in a bunch of people for lessons first and then narrow it down, but not sure how that works.

A few things I'm wondering:

  • Do you need prior robotics experience to get in?
  • Is it super competitive to get a spot?
  • What kind of stuff do they look for in new members?
  • Any tips on what to prepare before applying?

I'll be starting Y1 in RMI this August. Would love to hear from anyone who's been through the process or is currently in the team!
