Why didn’t Britain have extra bank holidays during The London Olympics?

It was an awesome year that London hosted The Olympics, but it would be more awesome if we had a bank holiday off for both opening and closing ceremonies during The London Olympics as a celebration and thank you for letting us host it, then still have to work while The athletics and committee get more money from it, The volunteering didn’t even have the free accommodation, Why didn't they give us bank holidays for it?
