Why shouldn’t I use laundry beads?

I want my laundry to smell nice and clean. I use fabric softener that is scented, but sensitive and for babies. The laundry comes out either just smelling like moisture or it comes out smelling like nothing at all. I really want to smell like nice laundry and so I started using beads for the smell and then switched to a concentrated softener. It still smells meh. Help? Advice?
