Need help deciphering what a therapist just said to me, in a very concerning session. TW: Therapy, possible psychosis
I went thru a traumatic event last year. Last week the local health service arranged for a first of six session with a public funded therapist/trauma councilor. That session was tonight.
I won't go into specifics outside of what i came here to ask unless people want to know about it. The session took place in the therapists home, it was the first time we'd ever met, and there was Christian iconography present in the home.
Preface: i ended the one hour session 20 minutes early, after discreetly hitting the voice recorder on my phone incase nobody believed me.
Around 20 minutes in I stood up and said "I'm sorry, I'm not comfortable with this, I don't want to continue, thank you for your time but I would like to leave." She quickly said no, no, its ok, sit down sit down (etc etc). I set back down on her sofa and she sat back down on the armchair opposite. I took my backpack off, put it on the floor, and when I looked back up at her she was slowly rocking back and forth, right hand in her lap, left hand raised up like someone does in court with their palm facing forward, eyes closed, saying "amen" over and over, slowly and calmly. She said it maybe 8 to 10 times, then she said "a rod comes down, from above, down your back. A rod comes down your back." There's a chance she said "the rod goes down your back"
What did i just witness? Does anyone recognize this? My partner was raised catholic and knows nothing of rods down backs.
AMA if it helps get answers
