So I got my Jupiter 2 - 16K in the early bird run, and as part of the transition from my OG - Jupiter 6K I’ve changed resins, have been using Phrozen - Aqua 8K for over two years and have the stuff dialled in with the JP6K and my three S3U’s, I’ve switched to Elegoo’s - 8K ABS Like 3.0 after seeing the detail that it can produce, and its flexibility, and not being as brittle, over the Aqua 8K.

The first test on the Jupiter 2 using it went really well, standard 50um resin profile off SatelLite and Static Mode printing profile for the JP2, the file which has printed perfectly on multiple occasions on the S3U’s was used, the file was supported in Lychee and imported as an .stl file. The finished print had really sharp details, and I’m suitably impressed putting it up against the same parts when printed with Aqua 8K.

And now the frustrating part, armed with the fact that the 8K ABS Like 3.0 is going to work well for what I produce, and the JP2 is printing with no issues, I started trying to calibrate the resin for the JP2, the first issue is that the JP2 manual states it has a resin calibration mode/function, it doesn’t, not in any of the menus, I think Elegoo needs to put some comms out about why it’s in the manual, and not the machine.

Secondly, and this is the next frustration the SatelLite slicer is useless and won’t allow you to change the resin settings! I’ve tried several times whilst trying to calibrate using the Phrozen - RP Tester, to alter the bottom layers and transition layers so I don’t loose half of the RP Testers details, and, so I can alter the normal layer exposure time too.

I’ve literally changed the settings on three different files (varying several settings) then sliced it in SatelLite, saved it to USB, or sent it via network direct to the JP2 and every time the finished print takes 2hrs & 54mins at 20um and the bottom layers haven’t changed and I still have 10 absolutely ridiculous transition layers) so effectively SatelLite is bricking the ability for anyone to work outside the official Elegoo resin settings at 50um for the 8K ABS Like 3.0, and locking the JP2 for 50um layer heights.

I’ve attached several screen shots from SatelLite and my JP2. Happy to be corrected if someone has found a solution or I’m doing it wrong…

I’m impressed with the finished prints from the JP2, and none of the concerns that seem to around social media are issues for me, I have room with the doors, the resin fill & recycling is working, the heated vat is working, it’s levelling ok, the UI is fine for me, however, this non-ability to calibrate resin outside of a 50um layer height, and the useless SatelLite Slicer is has the potential to cause major issues for Elegoo if confirmed.

So at present I’m sort of stuck with a 16K great detail, large format printer, that is stuck at OG-JP6K, 50um layer height boat anchor…!🤷🏼‍♂️
