PSA: Videogames are not art.
Video games are not art, they're products made to sell copies and generate income. Much like TV shows aren't art, neither are video games. You can make a video game as art and put it in a gallery, not selling it and that's been done a lot already. But that's videogame as art, doesn't mean video games are inherently art.
The whole discussion whether videogames are art or not shows an inherent misunderstanding of what art is. If everything creative humans do is art, then the whole term is moot. If everything is art, nothing is art. We have to limit the usage to something for it to have any meaning, and a good limit is whether something is made for consumption, taking into accord the tastes of the audience and aiming it at a demographic, whether something is made to be duplicated and sold to make a profit. If those things are driving the creative process, then we're not talking about art but a product. At its best it can have artistic merit, and at some point can be shows in a gallery, but it's rare for a commercial product to leap over into art.
