Is it normal for landlords to control even small things like shoes and visitors?

I recently moved into a rental, and I’m starting to feel like there are a lot of unexpected restrictions that weren’t really clear before moving in.

For example:

• They don’t allow shoes outside the room (even small racks aren’t allowed outside)
• Everything has to be kept inside the room
• If I invite a friend over, they sometimes say visitors are not allowed or should be very limited

I understand keeping the property clean and respecting rules, but it feels a bit too controlled for tenants. is it common or happening only to me?
