players are following my playbook too closely

Need Advice: Other

Dear sagely dms of reddit, i get that this may seem like a "my steak is too juicy and my lobster too buttery" problem, but hear me out.

Aside from players dropping out from scheduling problems etc and a few new players joining, causing me to rebalance encounters, there has been no difficulty dm'ing. It has been smooth sailing and i'm having a great time writing out a world and thinking up fun mechanics.

So naturally my brain has been going crazy paranoid, because everything i've read and heard and seen about difficulties dming is dealing with players running in a random direction and abandoning the clear questlines. But not my players, i set up a few quest giving npcs and they talk to them and then immediately go do that quest with quite literally 0 delay or deviation. Am i a bad dm or something? Am i railroading them without realizing? Am i not giving them enough options? They haven't expressed any problems and say they're having a great time, but what if it's just to make me feel better/ more confident dming a campaing for the first time?

I have, in almost every location, put random npcs without quests but with some intresting background just to flesh things out, i have put in random places in the visited cities with rich lore around them, but they fully ignore all of them. I have at this point more unused npc backgrounds and lore than actually used lore and npcs. They play my campaign the way my autistic ass plays video games, which is the complete opposite of what i had been stressing out over in the leadup to starting this campaign.

Is this just me being paranoid because it is my first campaign or am i unconsciously being a bad dm or is it something entirely different? Any tips, tricks or general advice are very welcome.

P.S. any spelling or grammar mistakes are not my fault, english is 3 languages in a trenchcoat
