Space-adjacent facts that would only be known in the mid 60s?

I'm *trying* to write a short period piece for my homework. My research, however, is going terribly in regards to general scientific knowledge of the time. Everything I've found thus far is either from a rising interest in Sci-Fi, or general coverage of the space race. Could anybody point me towards relevant magazines/textbooks? Thank you!
