How to transition into tier 3?

So my GF and I have been playing and we've pretty much cleared out everything we can do with the tier 2 stuff, we've been slowly pecking away at other tier 3 stuff but we haven't yet unlocked most of the tier 3 tools and haven't been able to find the core ingredients for most of the recipes we've found. Where exactly should we be going?
