Too experienced for a high experience job

I'm dipping my toe into the job field. I have a very diverse background, coming from nonprofits and education into sales a few years ago. And I'm good at sales--specifically, in this particular sector. So I say to myself, "this role is a step up and requires skills I have honed over the last few years" and I apply. The response was "you have too much sales experience and not enough [in sector where I currently work and excel as a salesperson]." How do you say, "are you blind or just stupid" in business professional?
