Pregnancy & Work Stress

Need Advice

I’m 3 months pregnant with my first child and my life has honestly felt like a disaster for months. A few months ago I left a higher-paying customer-facing office job that I took because my spouse wanted me to move into something more stable financially. My background is completely different, but I forced myself to do it because I wanted to make more money and contribute more before the baby.

The job completely destroyed my mental health. Clients screamed constantly, management micromanaged everything, and there were multiple situations where people came into the office so angry that I genuinely thought we were going to need to call the police. I started having panic attacks, chest pain from stress, crying constantly, and waking up every morning feeling sick because I knew I had to go back there. I asked if I could work from home during pregnancy to avoid some of the in-person situations and reduce stress, and it was denied. After that I completely spiraled.

It got so bad that for months I barely wanted to get out of bed anymore. I stopped feeling like myself entirely. I honestly felt trapped and miserable every single day and eventually resigned because I truly felt like the job was destroying my health. Now that I’ve left, I finally feel like I can breathe again and function like a normal person.

My spouse did support me leaving that specific job because he saw how bad things had gotten mentally, but he does not support the major pay cut and hours I lost by taking a calmer admin/service job afterward. He makes good money and works extremely hard, so I understand why finances stress him out, especially with a baby coming, but ever since I left we fight constantly about my career and money. I cry almost every night and we argue every other night at this point. He keeps sending me jobs constantly and every interview now feels like this massive source of pressure where I’m scared I’ll end up trapped in another horrible situation again.

I am still applying and interviewing because I do want a stable long-term career, but I honestly feel exhausted and emotionally worn down at this point. I feel like nobody understands how bad that job actually got for me mentally.

Has anyone else gone through something like this during pregnancy?
