90%+ Student, Zero ECs, Zero Budget: Can I make it to Harvard Pre-Med from small-town India?? Help me cause idk what ECs to do!!
Hi everyone, I’m a 10th-grade student from Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan, India. I have a dream of pursuing pre-med at Harvard, but I am navigating this entire process solo.
Context & Demographics:
- Grade: 10th
- Location: Small-town India (Tier 3 city)
- Financial Status: Low-income / Financially weak (will definitely need a full ride/financial aid).
- Support System: I have zero external support. No private counselors, no mentors, and no family members who understand the US Ivy League system. I am figuring this out entirely on my own through the internet.
Current Stats:
- Academics: 90%+ in all subjects. I have a strong academic foundation but no "extracurricular" profile yet.
Current Extracurriculars (ECs):
- None currently. Because of my location and financial constraints, I don't have access to the expensive internships or summer camps many other international applicants use. I need to find high-impact, low-cost ways to build my profile.
My Questions:
- Self-Starter ECs: What are some "world-class" ECs for a pre-med track that I can do from a small town with a $0 budget?
- Olympiads: Which Indian science competitions are best for self-study since I don’t have a tutor? (e.g., NSEB, HBCSE Olympiads).
- Research: Is it possible to get virtual research opportunities with professors in India or the US as a 10th/11th grader?
- Ivy Success: If you got into a top US school from a small town in India with no help, what was your "wow factor"?
I have the grades and the drive, but I lack the roadmap. Any advice for someone starting from zero would mean the world to me.
