Looking for a sanity check - I'm all over the place.

Hello,

I'm going to try to make this post cohesive and well structured but I'm kind of all over the place as the title suggests.

To start:

  • Age: 36
  • Gender: M
  • Height: 5'9"
  • Current weight: 240.3 lbs

My standard breakfast consists of a ~550-600 calorie meal:

  • 2 sliced up hardboiled eggs (100 cal)
  • 150g of cooked white rice (195 cal)
  • 0.5 avocado (120 cal)
  • Everything bagel seasoning
  • Vanilla Nuri Protein Shake (30g Protein 1g Sugar, 150 Cal)

Lunch is generally light or just a shake, around 150 cal:

  • Vanilla Nuri Protein Shake (30g Protein 1g Sugar, 150 Cal)
  • Maybe some PB pretzels if I'm really hungry (300 cal)

Dinner is where I like to make up for my light lunch, I try to stay around 600-800 cal here:

  • Large tofu meal, noodles, rice, chicken, steak, etc.
  • Cooked white rice (we are a very rice forward household)
  • Low sodium oriented meals
  • Vanilla Nuri Protein Shake (30g Protein 1g Sugar, 150 Cal)

I strive for somewhere around 1500 calories a day, and I refill my 24 oz water bottle 4-5 times.

As far as my workout routines:

Lunchtime:

  • 20 min: Full Body Kettle Bell Workout video by Caroline Gervin (not sure if I can link)
  • 20-30 min: Stationary cycle
  • Apple Watch Calories Burned: ~650-700. This puts me in what I believe to be a good "defecit" as I've burned more than what I took in for my breakfast.

After Work (5-6pm):

  • 10 min: Walk to the local Planet Fitness (0.5 mile)
  • 30 min: Treadmill walk/run (2.0-2.5 mile) - emphasizing way more on running/jogging.
  • 20-30 min: Abdominal Crunch Machine, Arms (Lat Pull, Bi Curl, Tri Ext, etc.)
  • 10 min: Walk back from PF (0.5 mile)
  • Apple Watch Calories Burned: I'm right around 1200-1300 by the time I get home (this is a total on the day).

That is all to say, I burn ~1200-1400 calories a day in my workouts and just moving about my house (stationary work from home). I consume ~1500-1600 calories a day, and that's not factoring my BMR which says I burn something like 2000 calories a day just from existing.

Overall, I feel great, if I'm hungry I will also have a healthy snack. I'm certainly not starving myself by any means.

I have gone from a size 40 jean/short to a 38 so far. A small victory. I'm really looking for a sanity check as I've always been told muscle weighs more than fat. My legs and arms are certainly more muscular than they ever have been- could this be why I don't actually see much activity on the scale? I'm not super concerned about the numbers but I seem to be "stuck" at 240.

There was one week where I saw 237, but after a busy Saturday which became a "cheat day" I shot right back up 240 for the next week.

I'm really just looking for a sanity check and someone to remind me to trust the process. I'm very happy with my current routine, I've even started adding in 10-15 minutes of core based standing aerobics to (standing crunches, star crunches, toe touches, etc.) to try to get that gut and side flaps of mine down.

I feel great- I eat well, and I certainly do not feel like I'm starving myself in any way, shape, or form. I know my mental health is stronger than ever and having my wife as my gym partner has brought us even closer together. Being able to hold each other accountable is fantastic.

Thanks to all, and to everyone here keep striving to be your best self.

TLDR:

  • Eating ~1500-1600 calories a day, burning ~1200-1300 calories a day (not including BMR)
  • Working out regularly, total body, walking, and running
  • Gut remains, muscle gains
  • Scale seems stuck at 240.
  • Accepting any/all workout tips for gut loss.
