I have pretended not to recognize people just to avoid saying hello to them.

Several times I have passed people I know on the street and acted as if I had not seen them.

Not because I necessarily dislike them. I just didn't have the energy to stop, chat, or explain my life.

The worst thing is that some people later tell me “I saw you the other day” and I continue to feign surprise.
