Indian couple planning to visit KL for a month. Need advice to pick places for accomodation

My wife and I are in our mid-30s, and we love food, beaches, history, and slow travel. We’re planning to apply for the Malaysia Digital Nomad Visa eventually, but before making any long-term decisions, we want to test the waters.

We’ve already booked our tickets for July and will be staying in Kuala Lumpur for about a month. We’re also thinking of doing weekend trips to Penang and probably one more place.

Right now, Airbnb options with decent facilities are coming to around 3K MYR for a month. We’re trying to understand if that’s the normal range or if there are better/cheaper alternatives locals or long-stay travelers usually use.

Our plan is:

- Mostly public transport

- Grab whenever needed

- Around 70% self-cooking and 30% eating out

- Work from Home, occasionally out of cafe/co working space

We’d love suggestions on:

- Best areas to stay in KL that are affordable but still well connected

- Areas that are walkable and good for food

- Whether Airbnb is the best option for a 1-month stay

- Any tips for first-time long-stay visitors

We’re from Tamil Nadu, India.

Thanks!
