For a character who gets no lines in the movie and little way of development in the book for some reason I find Strabo Plinth absolutely fascinating and would love other people’s thoughts and opinions on him (as well as having many controversial opinions on him myself). Here’s some I’m excited to talk about:

\-He absolutely clocked Snow the first time they met and I think the conversation to me reads like a test that snow failed with flying colors. Strabo wanted to see if Snow was interested in him and his family regardless of the money and snow failed on that account during the fireplace conversation. When Strabo seems strained and sad and ends the conversation early (earlier than planned in my mind), he’s upset not only at Sejanus’s ruthless actions but also at the fact that Snow isn’t like his mother/his former friend and turned out more like his Grandma’am in spite of what Strabo wanted him to or thought he could be.

\-I think if Snow had been more empathetic or sympathetic and had confided in the Plinths about what was happening with their poverty in my mind Strabo would have helped granted he thought Snow and Sejanus were actually friends, or it’s possible he would’ve done it as a favor to Snow’s late mother. Ikik snow would never ask for it, I’m saying purely from Strabo’s POV if Snow had asked I think he would’ve helped earlier.

\-Ma referring to Strabo as Pa while Sejanus calls him father makes me wonder what term was used when Strabo was in the room. Sejanus and Strabo did argue a lot so I have to wonder if calling him father started due to that relationship strain or if Strabo had insisted on it himself at one point. Honestly I think he still considered himself Pa and it was more of a Sejanus thing.

\-Can I just say- if I had betrayed my friends and extended family who may had raised me/grew up beside me so my child wouldn’t die in the Hunger Games and my wife could live mostly worry free in the Capitol and my family who I risked my public reputation, emotional connections, and probably life for and they turned around and weren’t appreciative of any of it and were miserable- I think I’d be pretty upset too. Compared to what I and others would’ve done I think he shows a lot of restraint in the situation and is especially tolerable of Sejanus’s awful behavior. I actually wonder do you guys think he knew they were miserable or that he didn’t know, or he did know but couldn’t quite grasp why?

\-Again like risking everything just to have a chance at the Capitol so your child won’t die in the Hunger Games only for him to die in the Districts and you get someone you know is a snake instead is just peak irony and almost poetic justice.

\-I really hope the Plinths are in the Quarter Quell book if it’s written. Probably wishful thinking since I just want Strabo in the movie with lines- but I wonder if they had to add him to a later movie how they’d explain his mostly being absent in the ballad movie?

\-In the scene where he’s looking at Gaul and Ma is looking away, is that supposed to imply something? That moment kinda went over my head.

\-I think the family color is charcoal/grey because they come from the mountains but that’s just my interpretation.

But yeah open to discussion of thoughts on him or just the family in general. I think they’ve been under talked about and under appreciated in my mind.

I NEED TO TALK ABOUT THIS MAN
