Job update just on my profile or to do a post?

personal branding

I’ve just started my 4th job and I’m debating whether to publicly announce it on LinkedIn or just quietly update my profile.

The reason I’m hesitant is because job hopping is generally frowned upon in my industry (construction/property consultancy), especially if people think you move without purpose.

For context:

  • Job 1: 4.7 years
  • Job 2: just over 1 year
  • Job 3: 1 year
  • Job 4: just started

My intention is to stay at my current company for at least 3 years minimum.

The thing is, every move I’ve made had a clear reason behind it:

  • Job 1 → Job 2: promotion + pay rise
  • Job 2 → Job 3: gain professional qualification
  • Job 3 → Job 4: promotion + significant pay rise

So from my perspective, the moves weren’t random or impulsive — each one was part of progressing toward a more senior position and improving my long-term career trajectory.

I’ve only publicly announced one move in the past (around 2 years ago). The others I updated privately.

Curious how people view this nowadays:

  • Would publicly announcing another move look normal/professional?
  • Or is quietly updating the profile the better route given the shorter tenures recently?

Interested to hear perspectives, especially from people in consulting/professional services industries where tenure is looked at more closely.
