I'm An Idiot

I'm a first generation American, born to immigrant parents. They weren't very pro America, or pro anything. a lot of family in the hood and other areas, never was around any military people. Always heard weird shit about the military, that all the dudes are horrible to their wives, lame rumors that a lot of gay stuff happens in the military. It didn't help the propaganda sucked. All we knew about the Marines was they got yelled at a lot, and wear fancy suits with swords when not geared up. That shit did not attract me. Now, years later, for some random reason I start researching military branches hard. I got to see some MARSOC training videos, learned about the "First to Fight" culture of the Marines.... It fucked me up, because that's everything I've ever wanted to be, I just didn't know it came in that form. I ignored a lot of street shit, because it looked lame and only ever amounted to endless skirmishes. Being a Marine would've given me a true purpose and sense of self in life. I'm too old to join now, I heard they only got up to a maximum of 29 with a waiver... That's long behind me. My only option now seems to be trying for Army Infantry. I'm not sure what the point of me writing this is... Please show and tell people more about what Marines do, not just bootcamp stuff, marching, or spinning rifles. Maybe you'll prevent someone else from missing their chance... I wonder how many other idiots like me didn't truly understand what a Marine was, or the culture around it, and ended up having to settle for being Army Infantry instead. No disrespect to any serviceman, I just know what type of person I am and it sucks I'll never get the chance to do that now.
