How do I get short term help with a specific issue when I have a "tragic backstory"?

Hello,

I have recently been going through some major changes in my life with a new health diagnosis and some other particularly stressful events. They are causing increased stress and flaring up my anxiety. I also have had a lot of adverse events and strife that have happened over my lifetime that I've done a lot of work and growth around already in past therapy and feel like I'm at an okay place with most of that.

I feel lately like I could use help to cope with my current situation so I sought out some short term therapy.

I'm looking for advice because I tried to find a therapist but from intake they were very focused on my backstory even though I made clear on the paperwork and in our appointment what my goals were. I ended that after about 4 sessions because they just kept focusing on my backstory.

I decided to try my works EAP because I figured it was meant to be for specific issues for a short period of time. I was clear with her about my goals as well. I've now had 2/4 appointments and she is doing the same exact thing.

I'm looking for advice on how to find someone who will help me achieve my current specific goals without making me go back though my backstory ad nauseum. I don't want to discuss traumatic events over and over again to satisfy someone's curiosity.

Do I need to search for a specific modality? Should I just start lying about my background? I feel like I'm advocating for myself, but maybe you guys have some advice to do it better?
