I’m building a community driven app for real-world range and consumption statistics

Discussion

Hey everyone,

when researching EVs, I was always frustrated by how meaningless officially claimed range can be (e.g. WLTP) in real world scenarios. So I started building a mobile app called EV Scout, focused on EV ownership data gathered by users.

The idea is simple; EV owners logging charging sessions and the app aggregates real-world consumption and estimated range stats for different conditions.

Charging logs currently track:

  • Energy: kWh added, Distance driven
  • Conditions: Season and Driving type
  • Date, custom Notes

EV Scout shows aggregated statistics of actual energy consumption and range based on all tracked community’s charging logs for known EV models and their battery capacity for scenarios like: Winter Highway driving, Summer City driving, Mixed Mild-weather driving, etc.

I’d love to hear your feedback:

  • Data points: What additional data should EV Scout gather that impacts statistics and would be useful to show?
  • Stats: What kind of charts or comparisons would be most useful to EV owners and the community?
  • Testing: I’d especially appreciate EV owners willing to log charging sessions so the community data becomes meaningful over time and more feedback is gathered.

The app EV Scout is currently available on Google Play and the App Store, and all community statistics shown in the app are anonymized.

Thanks a lot in advance for your inputs!
