My best friend lied to me about dating my abuser. She refused to believe me about the abuse I experienced, even though she saw at least the emotionally abusive part of my relationship with my ex.
My first boyfriend sexually, physically, and emotionally abused me for a year. I was very young and grew up very religious, and I was not well informed on healthy relationships and consent. I have been experiencing PTSD for the past several years as a result of this, and it’s been a long journey from denial to even getting myself diagnosed with the disorder ripping apart the fabric of my life. I also developed severe and debilitating IBS as a result of the abuse I endured. Physically and mentally, I have been struggling immensely while trying to figure out my young adult life at the same time and finish my degrees. I got retraumatized when I found out definitively on my birthday that my former best friend, who I had ended communication with for being friends with my abuser, had secretly been dating him behind my back throughout our entire friendship. I feel incredibly betrayed by my friend, and I want justice, but neither her nor another one of our good friends believed me and think I am lying for some reason. She was my best friend. I just don’t understand how this could happen or why she would do this to me. I’ve tried to contact her, but she never responds. I miss her so much, which is the worst part. How could she choose an abuser over me?
