What I have here is the civilian version of the MP5K produced by MKE in Turkey: the T94K. 

In the US, you’d probably know this as the AP5-M.

The overall quality of my specimen has been superb (yes, I have been graced by the touch of the divine H&Ks before), but I still decided to make the precautionary upgrades to the usual suspects (extractor, ejector lever, extractor spring... you know the drill) for peace of mind and for the updated geometries.

Initial bolt gap: 0.43mm with the stock locking piece.

Once again I repeat what many people have said before: the MKE locking piece is definitely not 100°. It seems closer to 115°. Probably because this K comes from the original data package meant to run without a stock, needing more energy to cycle.

I installed a B&T stock, a holosun dot on a UTG pro claw mount and tried it out.

It ran 124gr Fiocchi perfectly, but it felt a little snappy. On quick follow-ups, it pushed me back just enough to slow me down. At 10m on a human-sized target, it’s inconsequential, but compared to a real H&K, I could tell the difference.

At 25m, groups were tight (1.5 inches). Good barrel, me happy.

But while standing and shooting fast at that distance, the snappiness was more annoying. I was reasonably fast but constantly correcting the dot.

Looking at the brass, every casing had a side dent, suggesting a violent action.

Nothing to worry about in my opinion, but it became obvious that all these little things could be solved by one component.

Yes, the locking piece.

I live in Italy, where suppressors are not legal (which also means I have no use for a threaded barrel and tri lugs), so I went with the modern H&K standard of 100°.

After the change and a deep clean, the bolt gap increased to 0.45mm, which is right where I want it.

Now it behaves exactly as I expected: recoil is a soft slower push making it much easier to control in rapid fire.

The casings look decent now. No dents, just a slight oval at the mouth. It still throws them out with authority.

If you don't know what an mp5 is supposed to feel like, you probably won't even notice these things. However, if you want the premium experience (of course you do if you chose this platform) I suggest you change all components to the modern pdw standard.

To be clear, to have a great and funcional gun you do not need any of these upgrades, but if you are a decent shooter you will absolutely feel the improvement of a well tuned K (yes, even when not suppressed).

In the third image you can see the latest grouping from 10m pulling the trigger as fast as I can. For me this is beyond satisfactory.

If you have a full-size, there’s no reason to ever worry about these things... even though I'd still put a 100° LP in there.

My experience with the MKE K
