Avoidant GF broke up with me because she “wasn’t ready” then starts talking to someone new immediately
I thought our relationship was going very well ever since we had started officially dating. For context, she was a very anxious person and it took multiple months to commit to a relationship. We were essentially dating without the label and as someone with anxious attachment, I was always worried she would never commit and abandon me out of nowhere. We would always talk about the future together but it was still eating at the back of my mind that she didn’t want to fully commit yet. One day she calls me and randomly tells me she’s ready to be my girlfriend. I was happy and finally felt relaxed. Then not even 2 weeks later, she tells me she was having lot of anxiety and felt like she actually wasn’t ready. She was worried about things like not being enough for me, making me upset, and felt like she was walking on eggshells. I have never been upset with her ever and she was painting me to be this toxic person who was making her feel trapped. As the idiot I am, I told her I would wait until she was “ready” for a relationship. I had fallen for her too hard at this point and couldn’t let go of the possibility of us when we barely dated. She said she wanted to be “friends” and proceeded to still text me everyday for 2 months including good night texts every night, checking in how I slept, if I ate dinner, etc.. She was keeping me in a loop without the expectations of a relationship and still benefitting from it while I was an idiot who still wanted to keep her around bc I genuinely cared for her like that. End of that 2 months, she suddenly stops texting me and tells me to move on. I find out she started talking to a new guy who had initially tried to ask her out a while ago but turned him down bc she and I were already talking. I basically felt like I was thrown away for someone else’s attention and she never cared about me in the first place. She told me I was her best friend even after we broke up but she doesn’t want anything to do with me anymore. My biggest fear suddenly became reality. I feel so stupid for believing all the things she told me.
Is this typical avoidant behavior and was there anything I could’ve done differently? If this is typical, why do they do this? I know she’s genuinely a good person but what she did was cruel and I don’t know if I can ever forgive her for this.
