Target Circle card question

Consumer Law

I had a $0 balance on my Target circle card at the beginning of April.

Location: Indiana

We sold our house and got a brand new mortgage on our new home, so we had a large amount of money from the sale that we allocated to paying off our cars and as much debt as possible. We have more debt now, but at least it’s all in one place, lol.

As I was doing the on-line banking thing and paying off everything I could, I accidentally clicked on Target while trying to pay off a different credit card. I called my bank a few days later, but it was too late.

I contacted the Target Circle Card customer service online, explained the situation and was told once the money cleared I would get a refund in 7-10 days.

That was April 4th. The money had already cleared and showed as a credit. Seemed simple enough.

38 calendar days, way more than 7-10 business days later and still no movement. Nothing in the mail.

What I find the most interesting is that every time I call and speak to a new representative they act like this is the first anyone has heard of it.

No one is actually doing anything and at this point I know nothing is going to show up in the mail.

So, I guess I’m going to have to start taking steps to address this legally? I’ll have to send them something in writing to request a refund. Is that what I’ll have to do? I’ve done some light googling, but this all seems really idiotic.

In the age of on-line banking they can‘t just send the money back where it came from?

What enrages me is that the customer service reps keep lying to me. One of them even tried telling me the check was sent “yesterday”. That was 20 yesterdays ago.

If someone would tell me the truth and say “There is a review process for this sort of thing that could take two months etc etc” at least that would mean something.

I get it. I messed up, but why are they continually lying to me and saying 7-10 days?

One of them said to call back on 5/6 if the check hadn’t arrived. I did and they told me 7-10 days.

It’s infuriating. I’m never shopping at Target again.

There are other stores and they don’t lie to me.

Any advice would be welcome or at least reassurance that they will return my money to me at some point.

I’ve closed the account. I don’t want anyone trying to spend the money.
