Who I Am and What I Am About
Because it has now come up more than a few times and been remarked upon publicly, I want to address this head on. You can choose to believe my words or not, but I assert every single one of them is honest and true.
My name is Sean Patrick Fannon. I am veteran game designer, writer, and GM in the tabletop RPG space. I have recently begun creating material for Shadowdark because I was greatly inspired by my initial encounters with the game and continue to be so.
Some folks in this community have expended effort evaluating my level of engagement, and have accused me of (a) engagement farming, (b) not being genuine with my own engagement, and (c) being only interested in promoting myself and my work.
Permit me to briefly address this -
- Yes, I am seeking to create engagement and, therefore, present myself as an active member of this community.
- Yes, I am hopeful that my efforts will result in folks becoming interested in what I am creating and doing with Shadowdark, to include professional efforts.
- No, I am not "spamming" useless topics only for the pretense of engagement. I am genuinely, sincerely interested in your collective experiences and how you handle certain things that I wonder about best practices for.
- No, I am not trying to "farm" ideas for my publishing efforts. I have begun including a Special Thanks to this community in my products, acknowledging the influence you've had on my thinking and design process.
- While it is true that I don't reply to every comment that is made on my posts, it is also true that I read each and every one of them (I have them fed to my email). Many I simply give an upvote, but taking time for the thoughtful replies that so many deserve is difficult for me on many levels (including the fact that I am crafting thousands of words a day to produce and publish).
I recently provided a free copy of my latest product (The Dark is Alive) exclusively to this subreddit. Over 200 of you downloaded it, and I know it appeals at least to some of you. I did this specifically as a "thank you" for your welcoming me into this community.
This is the last time I will address this; either you believe I am a honest and genuine human being or you do not. I cannot control that; I can only be true to myself and speak that truth to you, which I will continue doing for as long as I am welcome to.
I do appreciate each and every one of you and your contributions to a community that supports what I believe to be a brilliantly designed game.
Thank you.
