Rat management
Hey everyone!
I just joined a community garden in my city on a busy street so of course we deal with rats. I haven’t put any plants in my raised bed just yet but wanted to know what sort of deterrents can minimize them eating everything. I mean. These are CITY rats, so they’re very sturdy. So far ideas I have:
-once a week peppermint oil spray on the soil
-netting (which will deter birds but probably not do much for rats)
-cat pee litter along the outer walls of the raised bed (I use wooden biodegradable litter)
-I started to use hardware cloth under the soil of my raised bed but was such a pain in the ass to try and install plus the walls of my raised bed are only 4inches tall so they don’t really have to bury, they can walk right in
-once a week cleaning any fruits that have fallen
Any other ideas or traps or feedback?
Thanks!
