On **May 12, 2003 -** Lucasfilm Animation officially launched — a move that would completely change the future of Star Wars storytelling.

The studio became the creative force behind:
• Star Wars: The Clone Wars
• Star Wars Rebels
• Star Wars: The Bad Batch
• Tales of the Jedi
• And the groundbreaking animated film Star Wars: The Clone Wars

One of the most fascinating facts? George Lucas personally invested heavily into animation technology long before Disney acquired Lucasfilm. Lucas believed animation could tell deeper stories about the Jedi, the Clone Wars, and characters that live-action films simply didn’t have time to explore.

The launch of Lucasfilm Animation also helped introduce fan-favorite characters like:
• Ahsoka Tano
• Captain Rex
• Cad Bane
• The Bad Batch

Many fans consider these animated stories some of the best storytelling in all of Star Wars history.

Without Lucasfilm Animation… modern Star Wars would look VERY different.
