I built a tool. I am not like other language learning app founders. Here is my humble story.

Day 1: "I will read a French novel. I am serious about language learning."

Day 1, page 4: looks up "pourtant"

Day 1, page 4, 45 minutes later: has read the entire Wikipedia article on the subjunctive, watched 3 YouTube videos, opened Anki, added 200 cards, closed Anki, downloaded Duolingo, deleted Duolingo, and is now watching Emily in Paris "for immersion."

Anyway.

I'm a native French speaker so I went through this exact spiral trying to read in English. I eventually figured out that:

  • reading books you already know = cheat code
  • looking up every word = death
  • grammar-in-context is somehow harder to find than a therapist who takes your insurance

That last one annoyed me enough that I built something. It does in-context grammar + cultural explanations on PDFs. Yes I made it. Yes this is promo. No I don't have a 47-step content funnel, I just have the tool and free credits for anyone willing to try it on a French novel and tell me it's bad.

I will now wait for someone to tell me I should have just used a dictionary.

What's everyone reading? (correct answer: the same first page of the same book for 6 months)
