My Honest Experience Applying to New Anglia University
Hey everyone,
I wanted to come on here and give an honest testimonial about my application process to the medical university that I’m now attending: New Anglia University.
For those who may not know much about it, and understandably because it’s still not as known as the more established universities in the UK or Europe, New Anglia University is located in Anguilla, a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean. So technically, it falls under the category of Caribbean medical schools.
As a UK student, I knew about my options in the UK and Europe. There were definitely plenty of choices available, but I found myself becoming more interested in NAU the more I researched it. It is also worthy to note at this point that New Anglia University offers a 4-year MD curriculum, similar to that of the US, rather than the 5-6 year curriculum of European universities.
One thing that stood out to me was how personal and transparent the admissions process felt. I contacted a number of universities during my search as any student would, and some honestly felt very transactional. With NAU, I actually felt like I could ask questions openly and get answers without being pressured into making a decision quickly.
Another thing that appealed to me was the smaller and more personalised environment. I know some people prefer very large universities, but for medicine I personally preferred the idea of smaller cohorts and more interaction with faculty.
I was also interested in the university’s international outlook and focus on UK-oriented pathways and clinical opportunities. Since my long-term goal is still connected to the UK, that was something I paid close attention to during my research.
I spent a long time researching before applying and I’d honestly encourage anyone considering any international medical school to do the same. But from my own experience so far, the admissions process was professional, organised, and much smoother than I expected.
I know Caribbean medical schools can sometimes get mixed opinions online, so I just wanted to share my personal experience for anyone currently researching options.
