Post-secondary program for Authors...

Long ago, in a land far away, I was completing my last year of secondary school (high school), and my guidance counselor gave me a list of occupations I was suited for and the programs that offered courses to develop the skills to succeed.

Today, I have chosen Author as my profession. I foolishly believed that writing was the only skill needed. I have now completed my manuscripts and am expected to graduate (metaphorically), but I see unexpected courses still needed.

  1. Editing

  2. Marketing

    A. Social media

  3. Querying

  4. More editing

  5. Finding beta readers and screening noise

  6. Public speaking to sound as clear as the writing.

7 -10 more editing

  1. Legal

A. Contract law

B. Rights retention

  1. Distribution

  2. Audio books

Ok, this list doesn't seem to end, and I haven't even published yet.

I miss simply waking up and following my MCs as they walked through life and recording their adventures.

Just a moment to vent and also to express respect to other writers who are walking this same path with me.
