My (25F) coworker (49M) wants to be gift for another coworker (22F) but I don’t he think he should - how to let him down gently?
I work at a place with a pretty interesting culture (it’s a very touristy restaurant and a lot of my coworkers live across the street), and a few of them have known each other and lived together for years. One of them is a very friendly albeit overbearing man with a few issues, and he expressed interest in my coworker who is 22 (and he’s 39 I know that’s bad lol) and she rejected it. In private she’s expressed upsetness about it and she also set boundaries with him, which he respected up until he asked me about getting her a parting gift when she leaves to live in a different country come July. It seems like he wants to make it a group effort or something but I doubt he’s asked anyone but me about it. It’s a personalized thing and honestly I just think getting her anything is a bad move. She’s closer with other coworkers who probably wouldn’t even consider getting her anything. I like both of my coworkers, but I think he’s being inappropriate by trying to do something for her after she expressed disinterest in him but maybe i’m overthinking it. He got her records for Christmas like probably $45 which she didn’t seem to mind but also she didn’t really respond. Ugh I just want to stay out of it but he’s texting me asking about it.
