Should a new DST player play Survival or another mode?

I'm asking this as a new player myself. I'm still learning how to survive in the DST version of the Constant (namely, how to prepare for Winter on time instead of getting sidetracked XD), and I've been wondering if I should play a different mode to practice or if it would be better to play Survival until I get the hang of it.
