Planning a 7-day Southwest field documentary (Utah / Colorado / Nevada / New Mexico) — looking for locals, hidden places, and real regional knowledge
Hey everyone,
I’m currently in the planning phase of a 7-day road-based documentary project traveling through the Southwest (late July 29 – Aug 5).
I’m not a big production crew — this is a small, independent field project created by myself. A woman looking for answers ! I’m focused on documenting real places, real stories, and real regional knowledge across Utah, Colorado, Nevada, and New Mexico.
Not looking for internet rabbit holes or recycled “tourist list” spots. I’m trying to connect with people who actually know these regions in a deeper way.
Things I’m specifically looking for: • Lesser-known places worth documenting (natural, historical, abandoned, etc.) • Local stories tied to specific towns or landscapes • Long-term residents who know how the area has changed over time • Guides, photographers, ranchers, explorers, or field workers • Hidden gems that don’t show up on Google Maps travel lists • People who are open to being interviewed or pointing me in the right direction
I’m building my route right now, so I’m still flexible on stops and connections. The goal is to document the Southwest through the lens of people who actually live it — not just pass through it.
If you’re someone who knows the region well (or know someone who does), I’d really appreciate a comment or message. Even small pointers can shape where I go.
Thanks in advance — I’m genuinely trying to build this from the ground up with real input from people on the ground.
