We (and by we, I mean I) have been looking for a dog for over two years. We laid our guy to rest in 2023, but not before adopting a dog that ultimately only checks a few of the list of qualities we were looking for. He’s family & not going anywhere, so we agreed (again - me, husband and adopted dog are two peas in a pod) on a second dog.

So the search continued and of course, when I saw this floppy eared doppelgänger, we threw that list of traits out the window down and said “let’s do it.” (Husband saw the pics and basically is along for the ride, he also has a huge soft spot for our former dog).

He’s going to be a big boy. Embark DNA test has been ordered. Assuming 70+ lbs.; hoping for 80-100. Currently 35 lbs and nearing 16 weeks (estimated age). Typical happy pup, softie & submissive.

All the names we have come up with have been vetoed. I prefer non-traditional names and names that aren’t popular (I.E. Oliver, Loki, Teddy, Bear). Former dog was Mason and he came with it as adoption. I didn’t change it.

Vetoed: Magnus, Hodor (basically all GOT names), Pascal, Moose, Echo, pretty much any dog name when you google “big dog names,” “big lovable dog names,” and common names, and we aren’t interested in the ironic names (Tiny, Kitty, etc.) or the usual Greek gods.

Currently I have these three I’m going to suggest this evening: Koda, Baloo, Griffin. Husband has suggested some M names to honor Mason, but we ended up not liking them.

I’ve looked up words for doppelgängers, clones, mirror, knockoffs, big softies, lovable characters, steady eddy, replication, impulsiveness, gambles, risks, and a few more.

Help!

Picked a doppelgänger of our former dog, keep vetoing names
