Trapped at Penn

I’m just here for a 6 month internship so this isn’t normal for me, the city that I go to school in has a much better train system so I am unaware of a lot of the reasonings/policys here.

What is the reason for getting into Penn already 10+ minutes late and then not opening the doors for 5 minutes? Like train stopped at the platform and everything.
