Total Targets

Budgeting

So I’ve been using YNAB for about two years now, and it’s helped me understand where my money is going; I couldn’t tell you the last time I accidentally overdrafted my account where before it was a monthly occurrence. But I’m trying to now use YNAB in its intended fashion to actually help me save money and get a month ahead to start. I have a question. The monthly summary displays a “Total Targets” which basically tells me what it costs to meet all of my targets and goals for the month. Should that number equal my monthly income so that each dollar has a job in the month, or should it be under my monthly income? If it’s not under I’m not sure how I’m supposed to assign money in future months since everything has a job in the current month…
