Mental Health Tips?

Tough Times

As we are planning our day I’m realizing that I’m starting to get anxiety about being overstimulated and overwhelmed on the day of. I have some mental health stuff that makes it easy for me to become overwhelmed by too much noise, touching, or even just being around people. I asked my partner if we could do a morning wedding and then have a few hour break and then we get all back together that evening for a reception. I figured this would give him the wedding and party like he wanted but also gave me some down time in between to recenter myself and maybe be more relaxed than doing it all in one giant chunk of time. He asked if we could still do it all at once but maybe cut back on the party so it’s not so long so then we’d have the evening to relax.

I see where he is coming from but I don’t think he is understanding that I still might need some time away to clear my head. I’m terrified I’m going to hate my wedding day because I’m going to be having anxiety and overwhelmed by everything. I don’t like being the center of attention and if we just “shorten” the day and push straight through I’m worried I’m going to feel like the entire event flew right by and I never got to enjoy it because I was too busy trying to keep myself together and not break down.

I’ve tried explaining this to him as clearly as I feel like I am here but any mention of an actual break between the wedding and the reception seems to get met with a “solution” that doesn’t involve the one thing I’ve asked for. I feel like maybe I’m being stubborn or unreasonable for asking for this. I feel like I’m trying to advocate for myself but it’s falling on deaf ears.

What are some tips or tricks others have found to help out with this type of anxiety? It doesn’t seem like I’m going to be able to get a break that I’m requesting between the two, so what are some great things to help keep me centered and not breakdown on my day. Any advice is greatly appreciated, I just want to make this day amazing for everyone involved.
