What Should I learn?

Hi! I'm 23 and have dodged learning an instrument my whole life. I've always had a huge passion for music (some favorites that come to mind being the velvet underground, Joni Mitchell, car seat headrest, and the beatles). Despite this passion I've been so intimidated about making something myself and this summer I have some extra time and am for the first time considering taking lessons somewhere.

Question is: What instrument did you start with and what would you recommend?
