Hey Film Era photographers what was it like transitioning from an analog space to a digital space?

Discussion/General

Hey, I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately.

For those of you who were already shooting, especially professionally, when everything started moving from film to digital, what did that actually feel like at the time?

Was it something you were excited about, or did it feel like you were losing something? I imagine it wasn’t just a simple switch.

Did you trust digital right away, or were you skeptical at first? And how much did it change the way you worked or approached photography?

Also, did clients start expecting digital immediately, or was there a period where both kind of coexisted?

I’d really love to hear any personal stories or experiences from that time. It feels like such a huge turning point in photography.

Thanks!
