My girlfriend worries so much about me it’s starting to stress me out

I (20 M) moved to Chicago in late February for work as a project manager and honestly things have been rough financially while trying to get settled. I’ve been staying in Airbnbs because I still haven’t found an apartment yet. Between application denials, work, and not having much time for tours, it’s been harder than I expected. Last week was probably the lowest point. I barely had money for the week so I was doing DoorDash after work to make extra cash, and I was genuinely worried about where I was going to stay. At one point I was seriously contemplating sleeping in my work truck because I didn’t know if I’d be able to afford another Airbnb in time.

My girlfriend (18F) isn’t even in state with me right now and when she saw how bad things got, she started crying because she was worried about me. She keeps saying she worries because she cares and hates seeing me struggle from far away when she can’t really do anything about it. I recently got about $600 refunded back to me from an Airbnb situation, but overall I’ve spent around $2,000 on Airbnbs since moving here and I’m still trying to recover financially from that. I’m also getting a $4k bonus next week which should help stabilize things.

The issue is she’s constantly trying to help manage the situation. She keeps telling me to call apartments for virtual tours since I don’t have time to go in person, wants me to apply immediately, and tells me I should use the money I have now to start an application because my bonus next week will cover move-in costs. I understand why she’s saying all this, but it feels like every conversation turns into pressure about apartments and money.

She even told me “someone needs to tell you the truth,” which honestly irritated me because I already know my situation is unstable. At one point during the call I got so angry and overwhelmed that I just hung up the phone because I felt like I couldn’t listen to it anymore.

I know she means well and I know she cares about me, but sometimes it feels less like support and more like I’m being managed.

How do I communicate to her that I appreciate her concern without making her feel shut out, while also setting a boundaries so every conversation doesn’t turn into stress about my housing situation?
