i used to have a friend that i steam familied with a while ago, and through his library i got access to forza horizon 4. i didnt think much of it at first because i already had forza horizon 5, but after trying horizon 4 i ended up loving it way more than i expected to. over time i put around 22 hours into it, explored loads of the map, messed around with random cars, did races, drove through the countryside for no reason, and honestly it became one of those games i would open whenever i wanted to relax for a bit.

sadly me and him slowly drifted apart over time and eventually our friendship completely broke apart. after that he removed me from the steam family, which i understand, but it also meant i instantly lost access to forza horizon 4. ever since then ive kinda missed it because i never properly finished everything i wanted to do in the game. there were still cars i wanted to unlock, areas i wanted to explore more, and DLC content i barely touched.

the biggest reason i want horizon 4 back though is because of how much better it runs on my laptop compared to forza horizon 5. horizon 5 used to run alright for me, but recently its become almost impossible to enjoy. i get constant frame drops, random thermal throttling, stutters while driving fast, long loading times, and weird performance spikes even when i lower the graphics settings. ive tried changing settings, tweaking things, lowering resolution, closing background apps, and it still struggles badly. after like 20 or 30 minutes it starts turning into a slideshow sometimes.

forza horizon 4 feels completely different on my system. it runs smoother, the temperatures stay lower, the gameplay feels more stable, and overall its just a way nicer experience for me. i honestly think i even prefer the atmosphere of horizon 4 more too. the map feels cozy in a weird way, especially the rainy roads, villages, forests, and autumn areas. driving around the UK setting at night with music on just hits differently compared to horizon 5 for me.

ive genuinely wanted to get back into it properly because its one of the few racing games where i can spend hours driving around without getting bored. even simple stuff like cruising on the motorway, finding random dirt roads, or customizing cheap everyday cars was fun to me. i also miss some of the seasonal events and online stuff i used to mess around with.

honestly id be happy with even the standard edition because at the end of the day i mainly want the base game back so i can finally play it again properly. but i did originally have access to the ultimate edition through the steam family, and i remember loving all the extra DLC cars, expansions, VIP bonuses, and extra content that came with it. so if ultimate edition was possible that would genuinely mean a lot too 😃
